Your central heating has kept you nice and warm through those frigid days in south Florida, when the temperature actually drops below 60 degrees. But, alas, there comes a time when you must say goodbye. When your tried and true a/c unit is no longer helping you, but may actually be hurting you (well, hurting your wallet anyway.)

When is it time to have “the talk”, and send your old a/c packing?

Consider the following questions:

  • Is your system 10+ years old?
  • Does your system need frequent repairs or a costly repair?
  • Do you notice your electric bills going up?

If you answered “yes” to any of the above, it is time to part ways with your current a/c unit and replace it with a nice, shiny new system. An air conditioner unit that will save you energy and money!

When you are ready to replace your system, don’t just settle for the first one that you stumble across. Remember, it’s been a while since you’ve purchased an a/c unit. Things may have changed since the last time you were “in the market.” Make sure you do your homework. Here are some suggestions:

  • Read this eBook in its entirety. (Or, scan through our website, blog posts, and other eBooks from UMI Residential Air Conditioning). Our goal is to provide you with tons of helpful information!
  • Look for a reputable contractor (one that pulls permits), and check their references.
  • Look for an air conditioner unit that is a from a respected manufacturer and backed by a good warranty. Check out online reviews for various makes and models.
  • Look for a unit that is quiet.
  • Look for a unit that is energy efficient, but do not “over-buy” for efficiency. First, decide what your needs are. Are you buying efficiency to save on your utility bill or to be green? Your a/c contractor can help you determine which unit is best for you.
