Do you keep hearing about cleaner and greener air? Are you patting yourself on the back because you just purchased a new green air conditioning system? Well, don’t stop there!

Green Air Conditioning System

This is our eighth installment of
12 Tips to Consider Before Replacing
Your Air Conditioning System

which can be downloaded from our free eBook library.

Once you’ve purchased a “Green Air Conditioning System”, that is just the first step! There are still ways to be even “greener”.

To ensure that you are doing the most to reduce your carbon footprint and save energy costs, consider the following:

Increase Your Attic Insulation – Adding more insulation can be one of the best investments you make. The energy savings will provide a return on investment in a matter of a few months to a few years.

Install Radiant Heat Barriers – Radiant heat barriers are a thin layer of metal insulation. They are usually made of tin foil with a paper backing or a metalized mylar sheeting. These bad boys can reduce radiant heat transfer into your attic by as much as 95 percent!

Use or Install Ceiling Fans – The breeze created by a good ceiling fan on cooler days can eliminate the need to run your AC altogether. Or, it will allow you to set the thermostat a few degrees higher on days when your air conditioning is in operation. Even in the winter, ceiling fans can help distribute warm air, which helps to reduce energy costs year round.

Seal and Insulate Ductwork12 Tips to Consider AC ipad – Poorly sealed ductwork can drastically reduce the cooling efficiency of your air conditioning system, as can ductwork that runs through un-insulated spaces like attics, garages, and crawl spaces.

Install Programmable Thermostats – (See our post: “The Electronic Programmable Thermostat – A Higher Degree of Savings”.)
