Air Conditioning Comfort for Life

United for your comfort since 1987

How often do you adjust your thermostat?

Do you bump it down a few degrees to cool off your house quickly?

Does it work?

ThermostatMyth #4 – Quickest Way to Cool Down Your House –
Set Temperature 5 – 7 Degrees Colder Until House is Cool.
Fourth installment from
Nine Air Conditioning Myths Dismissed.

It’s completely understandable.

When you come home from work to a hot house, all you want to do is cool down your house and relax.

You head to the thermostat and bump it down a few degrees, thinking this will work.

Unfortunately, the thermostat is only a temperature regulator. When you turn it down a few degrees, it doesn’t work harder.

Instead, it forces your air conditioner to work longer to meet the lower temperature you set.

A better solution!

Turn your thermostat up just a few degrees when you leave the house. Then turn it back down to its regular temperature when you come home.

Remember, an air conditioner uses more energy cooling down a hot home than it does to maintain a home that is already cool.

You may also want to consider investing in window coverings to block out the hot Florida sun.

A programmable thermostat is another good solution. These thermostats make gradual adjustments when setting the temperature.
