You’re asking yourself, “what does NATE-certified mean?

It’s not some guy called Nate walking around randomly handing out stickers for the back of service vans. NATE stands for “North American Technician Excellence”.

Nate-Certified

This is the first installment of 12 Ways to Ensure You Choose The Best Air Conditioning Company in Southwest Florida which can also be downloaded from our free eBook library.

It’s a certifying agency for HVAC/R professionals. Yes – another acronym! The air conditioning industry frequently uses this shorthand. It means Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and/or Refrigeration system professionals.

To become NATE-certified, technicians must…

…pass a specialized test proving their knowledge and competence in the field. NATE is both the top non-profit certification program for HVAC/R technicians and is the only certifying agency that’s supported by the entire industry. National experts in the industry are responsible for creating the specialized exams.

How well-known and widespread is this particular certification?

Get ready for more acronyms! The certifications began in 1997. Two years later, the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) and the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES) enhanced the program. By 2001, Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning National Association (SMACNA) and Sheet Metal Workers International Association (SMWIA) became part of the coalition. In another five years, the United Association (UA) would join this growing body.

How do you find a NATE-certified provider?

Fortunately, this is an easy search. Visit http://hvacradvice.com/ – you should see bold text that says, “Find a local HVAC contractor that employs NATE-certified technicians.” The website will ask for your zip code, and then it will return the results that are closest to you.
