With utility bills constantly increasing, it’s important to know what equipment is available to help you save money and lower your costs.

Have you heard of the electronic programmable thermostat, or perhaps you have one. If you aren’t programming your a/c unit…you should be. It may sound a little intimidating at first, especially if you are not the most “tech savvy” person. But, once you realize how easy it is, and see the savings you recoup from it, you’ll be a “programmer” in no time.

Here’s how it works.

Did you know that every degree higher that you set your AC will reduce your home cooling costs by 3 to 5 percent?

Your furniture doesn’t care if the room is slightly warmer when you’re not home. Maybe you like the temperature at a cool 74 degrees when you’re at home. But, everything in your home would be just fine if the temperature was at 79 or 80 degrees.

It won’t take long to cool back down when you get home, and the difference it will make on your electric bill is significant.

So, what’s the catch? We don’t always remember to turn the thermostat up or down when we leave the house and come home. That’s where these handy little “smart thermostats” come into play.

12 Tips to Consider AC ipadThere are multiple zone, programmable thermostats that you can program to automatically adjust the temperature during times that you are typically away from home. Then, it will automatically adjust it back to your ideal temperature when you return.
